Benjamin Hancock


Benjamin is a Melbourne-based dancer and choreographer and one of the three artists who have been commissioned for Chunky Move’s 2014 Next Move program, It Cannot Be Stopped. He performed in Chunky Move’s Keep Everything (2012) and Assembly (2011). He was also part of the creative team for It Sounds Silly (2011) as Costume Designer.

He is a much sought after performer and has worked with some of Australia’s leading choreographers in contemporary dance – Martin del Amo (Slow Dances For Fast Times, 2013), Sue Healey (Variant, 2012), and Lucy Guerin Inc (Untrained, 2011). Most recently, Benjamin performed in Neil Armfields’ The Ring Cycle, Opera Australia.

Benjamin is an Artistic Associate and founding member of 2ndToe with whom he has been working since 2007. 2014 will find the Collective developing a new show: The Lost Dance Project whilst continuing teaching and presenting smaller projects in and around Melbourne.

Benjamin is also a prolific solo performer, having presented work at Lucy Guerin Inc’s Pieces For Small SpacesFaux Mo at the Mona Foma and Dark MOFO Festivals in Hobart and a variety of Melbourne clubs and short works festivals.

Dressed as the Red Queen, Benjamin recently participated in the coin toss for the Swans Vs. Hawthorn AFL match at the MCG. This was to promote the launch of the Inaugural Winter Mona Foma Festival Dark MOFO.

Benjamin graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2008 and was the recipient of the inaugural choreographic award in his final year.
