Most recently he designed the acclaimed production of Jasper Jones at Belvoir St Theatre, as well as The Great Fire, Twelfth Night and The Glass Menagerie (tour to Malthouse theatre). His other designs included Lake Disappointment for Carriageworks, Tartuffe for Brink productions/STCSA and 6 month national tours of Bell Shakespeare Company’s Othello and Monkey Baa Theatre’s The Peasant Prince. He was also one of the Mike Walsh Fellows for 2016, traveling and studying in Europe.
Michael’s 2017 projects will include Jasper Jones (tour), Mark Colvin’s Kidney and Ghosts for Belvoir St Theatre, Three Little Words for Melbourne Theatre Company, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf for Ensemble Theatre and The Merchant of Venice for Bell Shakespeare Company.
Michael’s other career highlights include Belvoir’s Angels in America, A Christmas Carol, and The Dark Room – which were all nominated for Best Stage Design at the 2014, 2013 and 2011 Sydney Theatre Awards. His designs for Sport for Jove’s Of Mice and Men and Q theatre’s Truckstop won the 2016 and 2012 independent award. His other highlights include Ivanov and Fool For Love for Belvoir; Jumpy for Melbourne Theatre Company/Sydney Theatre Company, As You Like It for Bell Shakespeare and The Aspirations of Daise Morrow for Brink Productions in South Australia.
Michael set designed the critically acclaimed musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at the Theatre Royal and the electro-pop-opera Songs For The Fallen which has toured Australia, Sydney Festival’s Famous Spiegeltent and the New York Music Theatre Festival, winning best musical in 2015. His other designs include Ugly Mugs for Malthouse / Griffin Theatre; Truckstop for Q Theatre / Seymour Centre; Rust and Bone and The Ugly One for Griffin; The Boat People for The Hayloft Project; Miracle City for Hayes Theatre; Lord of the Flies for the Malthouse
For dance, Michael set designed 247 Days for Chunky Move / Malthouse Theatre; and the the development of Obscurra for Byron Perry/Force Majeure.
