Robert Cousins

Set Designer

Robert Cousins is a set, costume and production designer based in Sydney, Australia. He recently designed the set for Opera Australia’s Melbourne Ring Cycle. For Chunky Move, he designed the set for Complexity of Belonging – a project by Falk Richter and Anouk van Dijk that will premiere as part of the 2014 Melbourne Festival.

Cousins’ other set design credits include Julius Caesar, The Season at Sarsaparilla, Art of War, The Serpent’s Teeth, The War of the Roses, Pygmalion and Under Milk Wood for Sydney Theatre Company; Oedipus Schmoedipus, Miss JulieCat on a Hot Tin Roof, Peter PanConversation Piece, Strange InterludeBabyteeth, Cloudstreet, Page 8, As You Like It, Twelfth Night, Aliwa, Waiting for Godot, The Threepenny Opera, Gulpilil, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? for Belvoir; and Moving Target for Malthouse Theatre.

His set and costumes credits include Kafka’s MetamorphosisFat Pig for Sydney Theatre Company; This Show Is About People for Shaun Parker; House Among the StarsThe Merchant of Venice, Drowning in My Ocean of You for State Theatre Company of South Australia); and The Duckshooter for Brink Productions.

For film, Cousins has production designed for Candy (Neil Armfield); Romulus, My Father (Richard Roxburgh); and Balibo (Robert Connolly).
