Performing artist and director Luigi Vescio creates works for theatres, galleries, digital and outdoor spaces. He joined Chunky Move in 2015 as the Choreographic Secondment in Depth of Field (2015) and Lucid (2016). Since then he has performed in Anouk van Dijk’s Rule of Thirds (2016) and ANTI—GRAVITY (2017) as part of Asia TOPA and Dance Massive.
Deeply invested in movement improvisation, Luigi’s creative practice probes ideas pertaining to memory, intuition, the changing accessibility of connection and the conflicts presented by honest expressions of desire. Facilitating experience and seeking knowledge, his endeavours value the practice of letting go as much as accessing the new.
Luigi’s work has been supported by the Australia Council for the Arts, Dancehouse, the Ian Potter Cultural Trust, Chunky Move, PACT, Diversitat, the City of Greater Geelong, EIRA (Portugal), the Câmara Municipal de Lisboa and Polo Cultural Gaivotas Boavista. He is a 2018 DanceWEB recipient under the mentorship of Florentina Holzinger and Meg Stuart.
Independently Lugi has collaborated and performed with a diverse range of artists and companies throughout Australia, New Zealand and Europe including Phillip Adams / BalletLab, James Batchelor, Stephanie Lake, Rafael Alvarez, Graeme Murphy AO, Tasdance, John Romao, Mariana Tengner Baros, The Delta Project, Footnote New Zealand Dance, Craig Bary, Sarah Foster-Sproull and Otto Ramstad & Olive Bieringa (Body Cartography Project).
Luigi enjoys sharing his passion for dance and creativity through leading workshops.
Luigi is a graduate of New Zealand school of dance.
