Michaela Pegum

Michaela is a dancer, choreographer and more recently, visual artist and object maker based in Melbourne, creating within the mediums of dance, video, ceramic and metals amongst other things.

In her performance making she works with improvisation, imagery and sound to create evocative, semi-abstract landscapes. Over the past 15 years she has created a number of solo dance works and dance video installations and has collaborated with other artists to produce works for both performance and screen.

Her more recent solo works include Some Thread of Night performed at Lucy Guerin Inc.’s Pieces for Small Spaces, Sun in Theta performed at the Melbourne Fringe Festival, Lexicon for a Storm, and Limina performed for the Dance Massive Festival.

She has collaborated with Dominic Redfern and Siobhan Murphy on a number of dance video works and installations including Strand, which was nominated for a Reeldance award in the 6th Reeldance International Dance on Screen Festival.

Michaela has received project funding and support for her work from Arts Victoria, City of Melbourne, Artshouse Melbourne, Victoria University, Dancehouse and Lucy Guerin Inc.

She has a Bachelor of Design (Hons) in Visual Communication from UTS, a Diploma of Theatre Arts from VU and is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Fine Arts at RMIT.
