Next Move is the pinnacle of Chunky Move’s dance sector development program and a highly anticipated season in our performance calendar.

This annual commissioning program offers dance artists full financial support and access to the artistic, production and marketing resources of the Chunky Move team, to create a new work.  Next Move enables choreographers to further develop their choreographic practice and to present their work to a wider audience. For the past nine years Next Move artists, have each made a distinguishable mark and become the next generation of Australia’s leading choreographic voices.

Chunky Move has commissioned, produced and presented ten new works through the Next Move program: I Like This (2008), Disagreeable Object (2009), Mix Tape (2010), It Sounds Silly (2011) Keep Everything (2012),  AORTA (2013),  It Cannot Be Stopped (2014), Miss Universal (2015) and most recently our Next Move 9 (2016) program which featured a double bill.

The year 2017 marks the 10th anniversary of our Next Move program and will be celebrated with a full-length commission to be presented over a two-week season in December at the Chunky Move Studios.

We are now calling for expressions of interest and invite Australian dance makers with at least 5 years of professional practice to apply.
