Next Move Program

Next Move is Chunky Move’s commitment to the next generation of Australia’s leading dance makers.

A commissioning program, Next Move is designed to bridge the divide between young makers creating small independent work and more established choreographers. By providing the full producing resources of the Company and the creative freedom that comes with a complete commission with a programmed outcome, Next Move provides its recipients with a unique opportunity to create a new work in a focused manner over a concentrated period.

Since its inception, Chunky Move has commissioned, produced and presented ten new works through the Next Move program: I Like This (2008), Disagreeable Object (2009), Mix Tape (2010), It Sounds Silly (2011)Keep Everything (2012),
AORTA (2013), It Cannot Be Stopped (2014), Miss Universal (2015), Next Move 9 (2016) and REDSHIFT (2017) to premiere in November at the Chunky Move studios.

NEXT MOVE 2018 – EOIs now open

In 2018, Chunky Move will commission an artist to create a new full-length work for the Next Move program. The work will be presented over a two-week season in the second half of the year at the Chunky Move Studios. We are now calling for expressions of interest and invite Australian dance makers with at least 5 years of professional practice to apply.

For further information, download the information pack.
Expressions of Interest are due no later than midnight on Friday 13 October 2017.

The Next Move initiative plays a vital role in the national dance landscape and would not be possible without the generous contributions of Daniel Besen. You too can help us make the next move by making a tax-deductible donation to Chunky Move today. In doing so, you’ll become a partner in the creative process and keep Next Move performances accessible and affordable for all audiences.
