Stephanie Lake is a multi award-winning choreographer and dancer. Her major works including Double Blind, DUAL, A Small Prometheus, AORTA and Mix Tape (both commissioned through Chunky Move’s Next Move program) have been presented by Melbourne International Arts Festival, Sydney Festival, Dance Massive, Sydney Opera House, Theatre National de Chaillot (Paris), Theater im Pfalzbau (Germany), Dublin Dance Festival, Tramway (Glasgow), Frontier Danceland (Singapore) and Aarhus Festival (Denmark) among others.
Lake has won the Helpmann Award (2014), Australian Dance Award (2014) and Green Room Award (2011) for Best Choreography. In 2013 she was appointed inaugural Resident Director of Lucy Guerin Inc, which included working as Guerin’s choreographic assistant at Lyon Opera Ballet. She received a prestigious Sidney Myer Fellowship in the same year as well as the Dame Peggy Van Praagh Choreographic Fellowship in 2012.
Lake has been commissioned by Sydney Dance Company, Chunky Move, Tasdance, Stompin, Frontier Danceland (Singapore), Sydney Symphony the Victorian College of the Arts and was Assistant Choreographer for Chunky Move’s Assembly. She regularly collaborates with artists across art-forms including audiovisual, theatre, film, music video and sculpture. Lake has been a performer for over fifteen years, working with some of Australia’s leading companies and choreographers including Chunky Move (Gideon Obarzanek’s Connected, Two Faced Bastard, Tense Dave, Wanted: Ballet for a Contemporary Democracy, Clear Pale Skin, Export File and Anouk Van Dijk ’s Act of Now), Lucy Guerin, Antony Hamilton & Byron Perry and Phillip Adams’ Balletlab, touring extensively across Australia, North America, Europe and Asia.
